Class 2 have been very excited this week to join in with an international Wiki project finding out about Christmas all around the world. The project has been set up by a school in Traralgon, Victoria, Australia. You can see the project by visiting: http://christmasaroundtheworld2013.wikispaces.com/
Over the next few weeks, children in Class 2 will be making digital presentations about Christmas in the UK to share with our new friends in Australia.
Reindeer Rap! Class 2 are going to be FC's reindeers in our performance of The Christmas Wish.
We are learning a Reindeer Rap!
We’re a groovy team – We’re a hot hoof band With our jingle bells – From a magic land. When we pull that sleigh – When we go–man–go, When we bring F.C. – With his Ho! Ho! Ho! When we get on down – To your sleepy street, When we rock your roof – To a hip–hop beat, You can shake your hands – You can stamp your toe, You can strut your stuff – In the cool Yule snow, You can shout and cheer – Set the whole world clapping.... We’re the Reindeer Band – And we’re Christmas Rapping!
I am so pleased with all the children's writing this week. The weekly Star Writer award has been awarded to the whole class! We have been thinking about Winter, and the children have been learning skills to help them write amazing setting descriptions. Every child has today written a fantastic description of Winter, and I am very proud of them all!
Class 2 (and Mrs Preece-Dawson!) were very excited today to Skype Mrs Lill's daughter who is in Italy at the moment. She told us all about the weather, the friendly people, the beautiful sights and the food. She told us that she eats pizza, pasta and ice-cream every day! We learned how to say "hello", "goodbye" and "thank you" in Italian.
We are really enjoying our Christmas Around The World project. Today, we have posted two voicethreads onto the site, so that children all around the world can find out how we celebrate Christmas in England.
A big thank you to all parents who supported their children in bringing a special book into school. It was a fabulous experience listening to the children explain why their books were precious to them, and heart-warming to hear how the books make the children feel loved, happy and secure. They also talked about how much we can learn from reading, and how reading means we can use our imaginations and "escape" to other places and worlds.
I took plenty of pictures of the children curled up with their books... they will shortly appear on the noticeboard outside the classroom.
Our videos are now online! Visit http://our-australia-topic.wikispaces.com/The+Echidna+and+the+Shade+Tree to watch the children's fantastic videos re-telling this Dreamtime story. This was our very first experiment with our new iPads, too!
I have now managed to change the permissions on the Australia wiki so that non-members can view our work. The children's videos are well worth a look! http://our-australia-topic.wikispaces.com/ Copy the link into your internet browser, then click on the relevant pages on the menu on the right hand side... there are Echidna and the Shade Tree videos and Australian weather reports.
Next week, we will be writing information texts about Australian animals. The children have started finding facts in school, but any extra information they can find over the weekend will really help them write super pieces.
Well done to the children in Class 2 who achieved ten out of ten for their spellings every week in the first half of term.
Well done: Hope, Erin, Declan, Ellie W, Matilda and Olivia.
Reading certificates and prizes for the first half term will be awarded after the half term break. Could children please bring in their reading bookmarks during the first week back.
